Cody & Rebecca - A winter wedding sneak peek - Russell and Plainville, KS

I've known Rebecca for quite a while, so having the opportunity to photograph her wedding was like photographing a wedding for a friend! They started the day at the Fossil Creek Hotel in Russell where Rebecca and her sister Amy spent their morning getting all dolled up. Amy is a wonderful stylist and makeup artist so it was fun to watch her take such good care of her sister while helping her prepare for her big day. Their wedding was held in Plainville at the Sacred Heart Catholic church then they returned back to Russell for their reception where they danced the night away with the live band DoC. Tyler & Lauren - A beautiful Jewish Wedding - Maceli's, Lawrence

Tyler and Lauren were wed on a beautiful winter day this past Saturday. It was chilly but not bad for a January day! The day started with the ladies getting ready in an Air B&B right on the KU campus overlooking the stadium. A perfect location for two KU grads! We were even able to go over to Potters Lake on campus for a few chilly outdoor photos. I loved how the ladies all had fur shawls to help keep the chill off. After photos we went over to Maceli's banquet hall for a beautiful signing of the Ketubah which is a Jewish tradition before the wedding, followed by a lovely ceremony honoring the Jewish faith and traditions. They then had a fun time celebrating at their reception where they danced the night away and ended with a traditional KU Newspaper toss! Congratulations to both Tyler and Lauren! Curtis & Teri's Wedding Sneak Peek - Circle S Ranch - Lawrence, KS

When you plan a wedding reception at the Circle S Ranch you do so because it is so beautiful and makes for some lovely photos! But when the forecast is for it to rain alllll day, it's such a disappointment! However Curtis and Teri got so very lucky and the rain took a small break at the exact time we had scheduled for the outdoor photos and Circle S Ranch's lovely property gave us a some great backgrounds. The bridal party began their day getting ready out at the Ranch, then traveled over to Perry, Kansas to tie the knot at St. Theresa's, then returned back to the Ranch for the reception. Although soggy, it ended up being a beautiful evening out at Circle S and was beautiful under their outdoor patio areas too. Congratulations to both Curtis and Teri! Did you know Bella Lusso also offers Real Estate photography! I don't post about it much but thought it would be fun to show you what a difference it can make when trying to sell a home. I recently shot some photos for a realtor who hadn't used professional photography before. She was amazed at the photos and gave me permission to show a few samples of the ones she had took (and received compliments on) compared to the ones I took of the same home. Again this past weekend, I went back to my old stomping grounds where I first started my photography business to photograph another wedding. As much as I love shooting weddings around my home in the Lawrence, Kansas City area. It's always fun to see all the vendors I used to work with! Kasey with Wedding Connections was in charge of all the flowers and decorations for the wedding, and Kari Haas made the delicious cake, sooo yummy. Jake and Joanne had a beautiful ceremony at the First United Methodist Church and danced the night away with a live band out at the Schenk building. They were so great to work with and had a great group of family and friends to celebrate with. Here is a sneak peek from their day!

I first met Matt and Colby quite a few months back and just couldn't wait to work with them. They were up for adventure during their engagement shoot and even got in the canoe out on my pond for a few pic's. I knew then I was really going to enjoy shooting their wedding. The day began as a hot/humid summer day and as it progressed, the thunderstorms were looming. Luckily there were only a few drops of rain during the ceremony, and then we had just enough time for a few more outdoor shots before the big storm hit. They say rain on your wedding day is good luck though right? Matt and Colby had their wedding and reception both at the Jayhawk Club in Lawrence, Kansas. It was such a wonderful location with beautiful outdoor scenery right on the golf course. Ok, Ok, enough talk, here is a little sneak peek if their fabulous wedding.

It was a beautiful weekend this past Saturday for Brock and Sophia's wedding at Abe & Jakes Landing in Lawrence, KS. Yes it was a little warm but Abe and Jakes was a beautiful indoor location for both the ceremony and reception. It has a great old world/rustic type charm to it with lots of character. I loved watching Brock and Sophie all day as they just were so cute and in love. Here are a couple photos from their special day!

Andrew and Tessa - A beautiful country wedding - Victoria, KS

Andrew and Tessa were wed last weekend at the Cathedral of the Plains in Victoria Kansas. If you haven't ever been to that church, it's quite a site to see. It is listed as the 8th wonder of Kansas. Tessa looked so gorgeous in her beautifully embellished gown. Being the country loving couple they are, after the ceremony we traveled out into the country so we could get some photographs with her bridal party with a country/barn feel to them. Their reception was at the Rose Garden Ball Room in Hays, Kansas. Kacy with Wedding Connections did a superb job with all the flowers, and Kari Haas created a beautiful and tasty cake. Matt & Kelli's Wedding Sneak Peek - A Kansas City Wedding

What a lovely couple Matt and Kelli are! I really enjoyed working with them both for their engagement shoot and for their wedding this past Saturday. Kelli planned a nice 2+ hours of time after the ceremony for us to drive all over Kansas City. We were able to go to the Liberty Memorial for a view of Union Station, Kauffman Performing Arts Center, and to the West Bottoms for some more great textures for photography. Their reception took place at Boulevard Brewery in Downtown KC, which also has an awesome view from the balcony in which we took advantage of at night for a few more dramatic shots.

A Kansas City quinceanera - Bella Lusso Photography

Sometimes it's fun to have the opportunity to help another photographer out, and to photograph something that isn't always so common for myself. This past weekend I had the opportunity to assist another photographer to shoot a quinceanera. I shoot so many weddings, a lot of the skills are very similar, however the traditions are so very different. Just thought I'd share a few of the photos I took. This is a service that I can also provide to clients so if you happen to come across this post and are looking for a photographer for your daughters quinceanera, or a photographer for a bar mitzvah, I can provide event coverage for those events too!

Jake and Shelbie's wedding sneak peek - Hays, KS Winter wedding

To say that I enjoyed working with Jake and Shelbie would be an understatement. They were one of the kindest couples I've ever had the honor to work with along with all their family and friends. Even though we were shooting their portraits outside in temps with wind chills well below freezing, and even though I could see them physically shivering, no one complained and enjoyed themselves so the couple could get some of the outdoor shots they wanted. Oh and of course they are a beautiful couple which made things that much easier! Their wedding was held at the beautiful St. Fidelis Catholic church in Victoria, Kansas and their reception at the Schenk building in Hays. Congrats again to Jake and Shelbie, and a big Happy Birthday to Shelbie who's birthday is Today! Here are a few photos from their wonderful day. - Oh and take a look at those dance moves they had, they had a fantastic choreographed 1st dance!

Ray & Kelsey's wedding sneak peek - Red Bard Farm, Weston, MO

What a fantastic weekend we had for weddings, and lucky me I got to shoot two of them. My wedding filled weekend started off on Friday with Ray and Kelsey's beautiful Barn wedding which took place at the Timber Barn at Red Barn Farm in Weston, MO. Kelsey was so beautiful in her simple but elegant gown and Ray was looking pretty dapper himself. They chose the perfect time in the evening for their ceremony that was held outside with a view of the countryside finishing just as the sun was setting giving us the perfect opportunity for some gorgeous photos of the couple. I can't say much more about this wedding except, what a perfect day! Congrats to the both of you and enjoy this little sneak peek of the day.

Jacob & Emily - Perry and Topeka Kansas Wedding sneak peek

With the loom of rain and flood warnings in the forcast for this past Saturday, we were a little worried about what kind of weather we were going to deal with for Jacob and Emily's wedding. Emily really loves outdoor photos so the thought of a rained out day was sad! However God was good to us that day. It rained all morning and partly through their ceremony and cleared up for a few hours after, just long enough for us to get the outdoor shots they were hoping for. It ended up being beautiful out during that time, however the rain did come back in during the reception providing us with some opportunity for a cool backlit rain shot to end the evening. Jacob and Emily were wed at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Perry Kansas, a beautiful church in the quaint town of Perry. Their reception followed at the Great Overland Station in Topeka. Jacob and Emily were such a joy to work with, Emily had a smile on her face almost all day which made capturing their excitement even more memorable. Here is a sneak peek of their day:

Aaron & Maja's Sneak Peek - A Serbian Wedding in Kansas City

This past weekend I had one of the most delightful experiences photographing Aaron and Maja's wedding. I felt like I stepped right into the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", but Serbian style! This family had so much fun the whole day and were so welcoming to both myself and my 2nd Photographer. (Big shout out to Jennifer for her hard work capturing this very detailed wedding with me). Rooted in tradition they started off their celebrations with the groom coming to "buy" the bride from her parents. They had a whole skit they did for this which was so cute with him coming to the door and "not paying enough" and getting "fake" brides first. Once he offered enough Maja came through the door and that's when he saw her for the first time. They joined hands and came down the stairs of her parents home to be greeted with a huge celebration of Serbian music, dancing, food (lots) and imported liquors. Once the pre-wedding celebration was finished, we went to Unity Village in Lees Summit to get some bridal party photos before heading to the church. The couple were wed in a traditional Serbian wedding at the Serbian Orthodox church in Lenexa, KS. The celebration never ended that night as music and dancing continued as they left the church, and through the evening at the Prarie Fire Museum in Overland Park, KS where their reception was held. This is by far one of my largest sneak peeks, but I had to include as many photos as possible to even allow a glimpse into their unique wedding. Thank You to both the Kotalaja and Lockee families for allowing Jennifer and myself to be a part of your families for the day!

Joe & Denise - Wedding Sneak Peek, The Oread - Lawrence, KS

I have been fortunate lately as the weather on my wedding days recently has been just perfect. This past Sunday was no exception for Joe and Denise's wedding upon the 9th floor terrace of The Oread in Lawrence Kansas. It is such a beautiful view from there, especially during sunset when they had their ceremony. The Oread sits in the middle of the KU Campus and has a lovely old world, limestone decor which really complimented the grey and pinks of their wedding colors. It also is close to Potter Lake which is a perfect place for a few bridal portraits. Their reception was also inside The Oread where they served delicious late evening Hors d'Oeuvres and a beautifully hand made cookie assortment along with their delightful wedding cake made by the KC Cake Lady. Zach & Madison's wedding sneak peek - Lawrence KS wedding photography

I met Zach and Madison last fall when we got together to shoot their engagement photos on one of the most beautiful, perfect fall days. It was at that time I saw just how in love they were and how perfect they were for each other. There is nothing like working with clients that have that "spark" with each other, and who can have fun and laugh together. Zach and Madison were both raised in a household with strong millitary influence (both fathers in the millitary with Zach following suit), so it made their day even more special when they chose to have the guys dress in their millitary uniforms for the ceremony. The ladies started their day by having their makeup done at Ulta in Lawrence, then headed over to the DeSoto Baptist Church to get ready for their lovely ceremony in the same church as generations past had also been wed in. After tying the knot, everyone headed over to the beautiful Arterra Events Gallery in Lawrence, KS where they had a fun celebration of their sweet union. Jason & Kara's Wedding sneak peek - Manhattan, KS wedding photography

I arrived in Manhattan Saturday morning and couldn't believe we were getting yet another beautiful weather day. That worked out perfect as Jason and Kara were set to wed atop the Flint Hills Discovery Center in Manhattan. I usually get to meet with my brides and grooms before they book me for their wedding, but since this couple lived on the other side of Kansas, they took the word of their friend and past bride of mine that we would be a great fit for each other and they were right! I met Kara at Gaia salon that morning and we instantly hit it off. She is such a genuine and kind person I knew it would be a wonderful wedding to photograph. After the ladies got their hair and make-up done, Kara had her first look with Jason who I'm happy to say was just as delightful. Throughout the day they were constantly smiling at each other making my job that much easier! It was so much fun to ride around with the whole bridal party before the wedding on the trolly they rented going to different beautiful photo locations before returning to the Flint Hills Discovery Center for the rooftop ceremony and reception. Matt & Laurie's wedding sneak peek - Kansas City wedding photography

I started what turned out to be a beautiful weekend photographing Matt and Laurie's wedding on Friday (Cinco de Mayo!). They chose a wondeful venue I hadn't been to before called Brookside Gardens where upstairs they had a wonderful area for the bride and bridesmaids to prepare for their day. It allowed in the wonderful natural light from the beautiful day it was! The ladies looked so cute as they got pampered while wearing their cute matching robes. Once ready they headed over to the St. Rose Philippine Catholic Church where they were married in a very traditional Catholic ceremony. Both Matt and Laurie were just glowing when they headed back down the aisle as husband and wife. The couple being very into family opted to have the entire extended family meet at Loose Park in Kansas City for a large group shot, followed by more intimate photos of the bridal party and bride and groom. They completed the evening by heading back to the Brookside Gardens for non other than a Mexican feast in celebration of Cinco De Mayo. I loved watching Matt and Laurie interact during the evening as their love for each other is so apparent. Here is a quick sneak peek of their day:

Shawn & Hannah's wedding sneak peek - Kansas City Wedding Photography

For the first time in 9yrs of shooting weddings, we had a total rain out on Saturday for Shawn and Hannah's wedding. We received about 3 inches of rain that day and it never let up for us to go outside and get any type of outdoor photos. We made the best of it though and Shawn and Hannah were just happy to be getting married! They were wed up on Strawberry Hill in Kansas City at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The views of the Kansas City skyline are just wonderful up there! After the ceremony they traveled to Overland Park to the Marriott Hotel where they hosted a beautifully decorated reception and even rented our photo booth for the evening. It's so fun for me to shoot a wedding with couples and their family and friends like Shawn and Hannah's. They all danced the night away and were so entertaining! Seth and Marissa - A wedding sneak peek - Topeka, KS Wedding Photography

It's back into prime wedding season for me so you shall start seeing more and more blogs of weddings once again! This past weekend I was honored to photograph Seth and Marissa's wedding. The ceremony was at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka, KS. It was a huge, lovely church with a great long aisle to capture the bride as she walked with her father to the alter where she met her groom who was seeing her for the first time. We were fortunate that the weather forcast changed from possible rain to a beautiful sunny day for us to grab some outdoor photos over at Gage park before heading to the reception at the beautiful Overland Station. Marissa had all the details layed out beautifully and the evening was delightful with all her guests appearing to have a wonderful time.

It's always such an honor when a close friend asks me to photograph their wedding, not to mention a fellow photographer! This past weekend a good friend of mine, Janene, was married in a smaller intimate wedding ceremony at the Calvary Chapel in Leawood, Kansas. Being a photographer herself, she had an eye for detail with the beautiful decorations she choose. They followed the ceremony with a cake and punch reception where their closest friend and family joyfully celebrated the union with them. I'm excited to share with everyone the recent awards I have received! This past weekend, I attended a conference with the Kansas Professional Photographers Association (KPPA) where I was awarded two awards. I submitted a couple of my prints to be judged this year along with the other Professional Photographers and I won 1st place in the Wedding category and 2nd place in the Couples category! This is an award I've worked very hard for as I strive to create art with each wedding couple I photograph. In addition to these awards, I also received the Wedding Wire couples choice award for 2017. Receiving this award means so much to me, because to receive this my clients have to submit glowing reviews of my work and service! These two awards combined show, not only do I take pride in producing quality photographic art for my clients, but also excellent customer service that my clients rave about.

Chris & Samm's wedding sneak peek - Overland Park Wedding Photography

It's so refreshing to work with such a fun silly couple as Chris and Samm. I got to know them originally during their engagment shoot where they even used color run color powers to throw at each other during the session, sooo fun! The silliness and love continued for their wedding too which they had last Sunday at the Advent Lutheran Church in Overland Park Kansas. Samm even got all her bridesmaid's warm "onsie" PJ's to hang out in for them morning instead of the matching robes as many brides do. It was perfect timing as winter is quickly approaching and they will love having those! After the ceremony, the reception was held at Simply Unique Events in Shawnee, KS. It was such a lovely venue that was thoughtfully decorated and served a wonderful meal. Following dinner they had their cake cutting and dancing which was a hoot to watch. I was back in Topeka again this past weekend for Jesse & Jenna's perfect wedding! First thing in the morning Saturday, before getting ready, I met with them at their favorite coffee shop where they had a private special chat before their big day, and even exchanged love letters, it was so sweet. After their last "date" as an engaged couple they ran off to get ready for the day. Then when they saw each other again during their first look, all I saw is LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! They were wed at Grace Community Church in Topeka, and had their reception at the Great Overland Station. Jesse, being a firefighter, was even able to get one of the fire trucks to stop by so they could get some photos with it at their reception! Here are a few sneak peeks of their fantastic day:

The weather was a little cloudier, cooler, windier and darker than expected, but that didn't stop William and Amanda from exchanging their vows in front of the Great Overland Station in Topeka this past weekend. After shooting Amanda's sisters wedding just over a month ago, it was so wonderful to spend a day with their family again witnessing another beautiful marriage ceremony. Their reception was held inside the old train depot which has a beautiful area to host such celebrations with tall ceilings and huge chandeliers. Amanda and William attended to every detail of their decorations and the place looked just spectacular. Here are a few photos from their beautiful day:

Mike and Shayla were wed this past weekend at the Mt. Olive Lutheran church in Overland Park, Kansas and celebrated their beautiful gold sparkley reception at the Overland Park Ball Room. The ladies started out by having their hair and make up done over at the Solara salon which was a fantastic location nice and close to their venue. I love hanging out with the gals in the morning getting to know them all a little more! Then we all headed over to the Ball Room which has a beautiful brides room for the bride to get ready in. Then after the ceremony the bridal party and their guests danced the night away there! Shayla and Mike had it all decorated in lovely gold sparkles for a elegant feel... One of my favorite venues that happens to only be a few minutes from my house is Mildale Farm. Corban and Amber chose this location for their wedding and reception and I was so excited to have the opportunity to photograph this beautiful couple there. With rain looming in the forcast, they weren't sure if their outside ceremony was going to work out, but except a few sprinkles when Amber and her dad walked down the aisle, it turned out beautiful. And the little bit of rain created a beautiful rainbow that we were able to capture not only during the ceremony, but in some photos after also! Here is a little sneak peek of their day:

Chris & Carly - Schwinn Farms - Levenworth, KS wedding sneak peek

Have I mentioned how much I love Farm / Barn weddings? Well I do, from the fields of corn, to the old barn, boot wearing bridal party, jean wearing groom! I just love the country feel that Chris and Carly's wedding had. Their wedding was at Schwinn Produce Farm in Levenworth, Kansas. Just a short drive from either Lawrence, or Kansas City. The ladies began their day getting ready in their private cottage which is so cute in itself! Once Carly was ready, she did a first look first with her father, then with Chris, outside by the huge beautiful barn. It was such a beautiful day for an outdoor ceremony that took place under a gorgeous canopy of trees. After the ceremony the bridal party took a hay ride pulled by an old John Deere tractor out to some sunny fields of corn. Then started the reception in the fantastic Schwinn Barn. They ended the evening with the ever popular Sparkler Send off and headed out to enjoy their honeymoon.

Thank you again Chris and Carly for choosing me to be such a huge part of your day! Your family and friends were so FUN to work with.

Cameron & Tessa - A blessed wedding union - Hays, KS Wedding Photography

It was such a pleasure to photograph Cameron and Tessa's wedding yesterday! Not only were they lovely people to work with, they also had great families they each came from. It's always a joy also to see a wedding so blessed by God! After getting ready, they started by having each the bride and groom being prayed for by their respective bridal party. Then before the ceremony, they met at a corner of the church outside, holding hands and praying together for their marriage, while still keeping hidden out of view of each other. They saved that moment for the walk down the aisle, where you can see the emotion in each of their eyes. Then they continued to bless one another by washing each others feet during the ceremony. The ceremony took place at Cross Point Church in Hays, Kansas, with the reception following at the Fort Hays State University Ball Room. Beisdes the 106 degree day in which we had to suffer through to get their lovely outdoor shots, the whole day went off without a hitch. Congrats again to Cameron and Tessa.

Dillion & Megan - A Kansas City Wedding Sneak Peek

I always love getting to photograph weddings in locations I haven't shot at before, it so fun to learn to create art and use light in creative ways at different venues. The venue Dillion and Megan choose 2000 Grand may not have looked so impressive on the outside (see construction photo below) but inside it had great views of the city (especially after the sun went down). I first met Dillion and Megan last year when we shot their engagement session and I knew then this was going to be a wonderful celebration of marriage I was going to be able to photograph. It was great to witness how in love they are and how much fun all their friends and family had during the wedding and reception. We started off with their first look, then headed down to Loose park for some shots of them and the bridal party, then after the ceremony we were able to sneak them off for a few more shots outside the venue so they could get some of the downtown skyline in. Thanks again Dillion and Megan for trusting me to capture your wonderful memories!

I met Trudie and Chris through a mishap when the photographer they previously hired accidentally booked two weddings for the same date! Knowing the other photographer and hating for that to happen to anyone, I told her I would meet with this couple and shoot the wedding for them so they wouldn't have to stress! Well at least not about that, Trudie and Chris had a ton of other "mishaps" during their wedding (melting cake, missing flowers etc.) but that didn't stop them from having a fantastic wedding and "getting hitched" anyways! As I always tell my brides and grooms, If everything goes perfect on your wedding day, you won't have any funny stories to tell later! Well, they wont have that problem! Johnny & Vanessa's Sneak Peek - Hays, Kansas Wedding Photography

What's better then spending a Saturday shooting a wedding? Shooting one for some good friends! Johnny and Vanessa were married this past Saturday in Hays, Kansas. Unfortunately the weather wasn't as nice as we were hoping for a spring wedding (tons of rain the night before making everything muddy, combined with a cold day Saturday gave us a shorter amount of outdoor shooting time) . The ladies began their morning at J Salon in downtown Hays, where they got all dolled up for the day and the ladies brought some yummy treats to snack on (along with some tasty mimosas). The wedding was held at St. Michaels church, and the reception out in the Unrein building at the fairgrounds where they also chose to have the photo booth set up. It was a great wedding, both from a photographers view, and as a friend attending. It was fun to capture and be a part of their day, along with enjoying some food, dancing and drinks at the reception with other friends and family. Spring time - Engagement time ! - Susannah & Manny - Engaged

As spring is now in full bloom, engagement and wedding season is heavy upon us! After the slower winter months, it's so nice to have a fresh start for the season getting to know my future brides and grooms as we travel around to do their engagement sessions. I met Susannah a few months ago at a local bridal show. After talking some time we realized we attended the same church and just really hit it off. I was so glad when she contacted me to photograph her and Manny's engagement session. They are a couple who are so affectionate to each other they are joy to watch. The couple opted for a downtown Kansas City shoot in Loose Park, followed by a few shots over at Union Station. I'm sure you'll see their "glow" in these as their love for each other was radiating!

I loved seeing the way they kept God in the forefront of their wedding day and even spent a moment praying together after their first look, before the ceremony started. Chris & Eva's Wedding - Oskaloosa, Kansas Wedding Photography

Well here is to my first wedding of the 2016 season. I haven't blogged much over the winter months as those are usually the photographers quiet months, but as of this past weekend, wedding season is again officially underway. Engagement sessions are also in popular demand as the weather gradually turns to spring so be expecting to see some of those shoots in the coming weeks. But on to the couple of the hour!!!

Chris and Eva are such a great couple to work with. Their love was evident from the first time I got to photograph them during their engagement shoot last summer! Chris is a Police officer in Lawrence, Kansas and Eva just took her BAR exam to become an attorney, what a perfect pairing! Their wedding day this past Saturday was also perfect, aside from a few spring snow fluries, and blowing wind which made it a little too brisk to spend much time outdoors taking photos. Their ceremony and reception took place out at the Chrisman Manor in Oskaloosa Kansas. Such a nice place they have out there with quiet seclusion and what would be a lovely outdoor landscape for photos (had it been a little warmer!). Wedding Photography and Photo Booth Rentals - Bridal show season

During the slower wedding season, I consider it bridal show season! I haven't posted a whole lot lately as during the cold months there is usually a lull in weddings, but I do attend many bridal shows. There were a few so far this year in Lawrence, KS that I took part in, and I'll be at one in Lenexa, KS the coming weekend (more info below). The last bridal show a couple weeks ago took place at Maceli's Banquet Hall in Lawrence, Kansas. Most of the time I usually just showcase my wedding photography, but this past show I decided to bring the whole photo booth rental set up with me. Not everyone knows I also offer photo booth rentals in the Lawrence, Kansas City, Topeka and surrounding areas along with wedding photography. The photo strips can be designed with all kinds of background options, and can be printed in the standard 2X6 strips (see a few samples below) or a 4X6 strip like the ones I printed out for the last bridal show shown here also. It is a fully automated booth with a touch screen that is operated from inside the booth, and we bring along tons of props for your guests to use! If you haven't considered a photo booth rental for your wedding, I guarantee you, it's A LOT of fun! Plus if you hire me for your wedding photography, you can get a huge discount on a photo booth too!

Lawrence Wedding Extravaganza - Lawrence Kansas Bridal Shows

This past Sunday I had the pleasure of meeting so many brides and grooms at the Lawrence Wedding Extravaganza in Lawrence, Kansas. This is such a lovely bridal show because it's not quite as huge as some but has some great vendors and a chance for me to meet some of the local brides and grooms getting married in Lawrence and the surrounding areas. I just wanted to share a few photos of mine and some other booths along with the bridal fashion show that was put on.

Matt & Mykel's wedding sneak peek - Lawrence, KS Wedding Photography

What an awesome couple I had an opportunity to photograph last night for their wedding. I photograph a lot of weddings, but I don't often come across a couple quite like the Purkapile's. They were so cute together and their love was so genuine it was a fantastic wedding to be a part of. Matt had me laughing many times with his crazy dancing (see photos below). These are the moments that make for great wedding photos, when two people are so in love that there are emotions displayed in just about every shot. The couple had their wedding and reception at Maceli's in Lawrence which looked so beautiful all decorated up. Congrats again Matt and Mykel!

Jennifer Jo Cobb & Eddie Troconis - Kansas City, Town Pavillion Wedding Sneak Peek

To say that I was excited to photograph this wedding is an understatement. The first time I met Jennifer Jo we really hit it off and I was so blessed to be able to capture her and Eddie's special day. Jennifer Jo is a driver for NASCAR which made it even more special, now I'm excited to be able to see her race in person some day. Jennifer Jo and Eddie were married at the Town Pavillion in downtown Kansas City. Matt & Jaimee - An Intimate Kansas City Wedding - Sneak Peek

I'm so fortunate to work with such great couples. The first wedding I shot this past weekend was for Matt and Jaimee. Their love was so strong you could see it in the way the looked at each other, even in their silly moments together. Although they chose to have a smaller intimate wedding, they still wanted to have some great wedding photos to look back on for years to come. They actually set aside over 2 hours for traveling around downtown Kansas City (in a limo I might ad) just so we could stop at a variety of places before the ceremony to get some fun shots of them and their bridal party. It was such a pleasure to me and I was able to get more great photos of them than I have at any other wedding I have ever shot! Just take a look at the photos below, these are just a small selection of them but we have quite a few more too! Oh and did I mention the great venue they chose. There is this little place downtown called The Vow Exchange. It only holds about 30 guests or less, but it is soooo pretty! They followed up the ceremony with a dinner reception at Cafe Trio on the Kansas City Plaza, such a great end to a beautiful day! Here is a little sneak peek of their day:

Corban & Amber - A Kansas City Engagement

One of my favorite things about engagement sessions is getting to know the Bride and Groom a little more before their big day. Although I had previously met with Corban and Amber, spending a few hours with them really got me excited for their wedding. You can just see the love they have for each other and it's beautiful. Corban recommended this great spot to shoot at in Olathe, Kansas with a waterfall which turned out to be just perfect. We then went to the Olathe Community Center park which has some lovely settings also. Here are a few of my favorites!

Edwyn and Olivia are such a lovely couple to work with, I completely enjoyed photographing their wedding this past weekend. I started out early in the morning with the ladies, as the brides sister Brenna worked on their hair and makeup. It was a wonderful time getting to know all the girls, both friends and family of Olivia's. After they were ready she suprised her father with a "first look" of his own just outside her dressing room. I loved the look on his face as he saw his little girl, all grown up, looking beautiful and getting ready to marry the man of her dreams. It was such a sweet moment after which the groom had his first look of his bride to be. So I realized I've been posting all my sneak peek photos to my facebook page lately and have totally neglected by blog! Oh goodness, what was I thinking. With all the different types of social media out there today, sometimes it's hard to keep up! I've been doing quite a few engagement sessions lately getting ready for some upcoming weddings later this year and early next year. The other day I had the opportunity to work with Jaimee and Matt on their engagement session in downtown Kansas City. This is the first time I've done an engagement shoot using the wonderful Kansas City Architeture as a background for a session. We visited Union Station, the Liberty Memorial, Kauffman Center and the Kansas City River Market. All such wonderful places to show the areas in which this wonderful couple's relationship first blossomed. Looking forward to their downtown wedding this October!

Tim & Liz McElroy - A little peek into their beautiful wedding day - Hays, KS Wedding

What a fun couple Tim and Liz are, I found this out when I first did their engagement photos last year using the Budweiser truck in the photos that Tim drives for work. With that alone I knew their wedding was going to be a fun one to photograph. The couple was wed at the United Methodist Church in Hays, KS. I had a great time hanging with the bride and her girls in the morning while they got ready in the recently remodeled and beautiful brides room at the church. Liz's mom even did her makeup which I thought made it even more special (see photo below). The couple had a beautiful ceremony, it was so wonderful to see all the cute looks and smiles they gave each other throughout the day, they are surely IN LOVE! Here are a few photos giving you a little glimpse into their special day.

Robert & Valerie Yates - A wedding sneak peek - Hays, KS Wedding Photography

Another beautiful day this past weekend for a wedding. I traveled up to Hays, Kansas to photograph the union of Robert and Valerie. It was so wonderful to be a part of a day in which two people are so in love. It was especially incredible to see how their family merged together with Valerie's daughter Camryn to become a family of 3 as they even included her in the ceremony, not only as the flower girl but during the sand ceremony. Valerie started her day getting her hair and makeup done at Salon Diva (incredible staff did a wonderful job on all the ladies). The ceremony was held at the United methodist church in Hays, followed by a reception at the VFW. The had some beautiful uplighting they added which really lends to a beautiful backdrop to their photos. Here is a little sneak peek from their day!

Matthew & Ashley's Wedding sneak peek - Great Bend, Wedding Photography

After all the rain we've had lately, it was so nice to have such a beautiful day this past Saturday to celebrate the wedding of Matthew and Ashley Moeder. Their wedding took place in Olmitz, KS in a beautiful church in which many of their family members have also been wed. Then they were off to the Great Bend Convention center where the celebrated their marriage with a wonderful reception. They even chose to have the Photo Booth which was a big hit! Matt and Ashley also chose one of the best DJ's I've ever worked with, DJ Cain, out of Salina Kansas who kept the party rockin! Here is a little sneak peek from their wedding. Kansas City Perfect Wedding Guide Bridal Show 2015

This past weekend I was fortunate to have a booth at the Kansas City Bridal Show sponsored by Perfect Wedding Guide, in Overland Park Kansas. It was held at the Overland Park Convention center which is HUGE! There were many different vendors all offering such great services for Brides to choose from to help them plan their perfect wedding. I had the opportunity to meet some great Brides and Grooms which I hope I can be of service to in the future, along with some other vendors! The Bridal Fashion show was top notch and featured dresses from Davids Bridal and Belle Vogue. I couldn't help but to shoot some of the fashion show so I thought I'd share some photos with you and maybe some brides who weren't able to attend can also get some dress ideas. Wedding season is starting and with the weather warming up soon, I will have some more engagement and wedding photos to share with you all soon!

Well I know it's been a while since I've blogged. It's a slower time of year for weddings and I've had a little time off during the holidays, so I took a break from blogging too! However with the new year comes a new season in which I started by hosting a booth at the Lawrence Bridal Extravaganza last weekend. It was a great turnout with a wonderful fashion show showcasing many beautiful dresses and other bridal attire. I thought I'd share a few photos of my booth and some of the models. I will be at another bridal show in a couple weeks on Feb. 7th. It's the Lawrence Free State Bridal Fair. Brett & Ashely's Wedding Sneak Peek - Lawrence, Kansas Wedding Photography

So I finished up my busy season with one of my favorite weddings of the year! Last weekend was Brett & Ashely's wedding ceremony in Russell, Kansas. I have to admit, a lot of times when someone tells me they are having an outdoor wedding I think "oh NO.." I've been to quite a few outdoor weddings that have either ended up indoors, or terribly hot or windy outdoors. Not to mention as a photographer we're always concerned about lighting, and the sun being as bright as it is can sometimes be a challenge to work with. However this past Saturday was a magnificant day. It was in the upper 60's with just barely a breeze and beautifully sunny skies! Not to mention this couples choice of decorations were just fantastic. Before I get to the sneak peek, here is a little about the couple:

BRETT & ASHELY MAI - OCTOBER 18, 2014

HOW AND WHEN DID YOU GUYS FIRST MEET?

We met in our hometown of Russell, Kansas. We had always seen each other around but officially met in 2002-2003 through, Brett's sister and one of my best friends since high school, but we didn't start dating until 2007 after we went to a George Strait concert with a big group of friends.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE?

Brett invited a group of our close friends and our parents over on New Year's Eve to play board games and to ring the new year together. Some of us decided it would be fun to meet a few more friends at a local bar, but before we could, we just HAD to play Monopoly. It took a little (ok a lot) to talk me into playing a game that normally takes hours to get through. So we all gathered around the board game and everyone picked a game piece. Everyone knows I always want to be the hat so I put the game piece on the board. He took it away and said "You can't have the hat, but you can have the ring" I said "NO, I don't want to be the...Wait what??" As I looked down, I saw the most beautiful ring ever and realized he was down on one knee! Come to find out, almost everyone there was in on it in some way. He thought of everything! It was so perfect!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE BRIDES AND GROOMS?

We worked together and made a cake/cupcake stand, benches and many other items for our wedding. It took a lot of patience and time but we wanted to put our touch on as much as we could. Get the big items (ceremony/reception venue, DJ, photographer) booked first. All the smaller things are easier to decide on after that. Use the help offered to you, even if it isn't until the day of. Things will go wrong and won't be exactly what you had in mind, but in the end it will be beautiful and no one but you will know. Don't stress about the small stuff. Ask questions and don't assume everyone knows what you want and how you want it. It goes fast so hold hands as much as possible, dance and be sure to have fun!

Ryan & Jami's Wedding Sneak Peek - Lawrence, KS Wedding Photography

October 4th will be a day to remember for Ryan and Jami. Their beautiful wedding was held at the Messiah Luthran Church in Hays Kansas on one of the most perfect days of the year. Jami Started out by having her hair done at Off the Top in Hays, followed by make up by Dax at Body and Soul who is so fun to work with and absolutely amazing at what she does. The girls then met back at the church to get dressed and I just loved the way all the bridesmaids were helping Jami and everyone was having such a wonderful time (see photos below). I also loved that I could feel the excitement that Jami and Ryan had as I spoke with them both before their first look which led them into a wonderful ceremony and fun filled reception. I asked Ryan and Jami a couple questions so we could get to know them a little more.

How and when did you guys meet?

In the summer of 2008 we met at a house party that happened to be inbetween both our hometowns.

Tell us about your proposal:

Ryan made me a romantic dinner at home, lured me into our spare bedroom (told me the dog had made a mess and I needed to help clean up) and we on bender knee as I turned the corner. It was on valentines day 2013.

What kinds of things do you like to do together?

We love to go camping, go on walks with our dogs, work on our house and sometimes just cuddle up and watch TV together.

What advice would you like to give to future brides/grooms planning their wedding?

Don't stress out, you don't want to make yourself sick before your honeymoon!

Phillip & Amanda's Wedding Sneak Peek - Lawrence, KS Wedding Photography

Phillip and Amanda had a perfect day this past Saturday for an outdoor wedding. A few days before the wedding there was an 80% chance of rain in the forcast, but day by day the chances got less and less and Saturday turned out to be perfect! (Ok it was a little warm and muggy, but you really can't complain!).

HOW DID YOU MEET?

Phillip and Amanda have actually know each other since they were 12 years old! So awesome. Phillip says he can even remember giving Amanda Jolly Ranchers in Middle school (how cute, he must have had a crush way back then!) However they grew apart, but reconnected a few years ago and then started dating.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE?

Phil took me to my favorite spot over looking Hays, we had spent many evening enjoying that spot especially after me living in Denver for 4 years. I enjoyed to quiet of small town Hays. He asked me to get out of his truck and proposed right in that spot.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO TOGETHER AS A COUPLE?

Anything that involves us being together. We go on weekend getaways, dirt track races, movies and spending time at home with out Schnauzer puppies.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR FUTURE BRIDES?

Enjoy the day! It goes by way too fast!

Kiel & Sarah, what a wonderful couple! They were wed this past weekend at the United Methodist Church in Hays, Kansas. It was a pleasure working with them, they had such a quiet but joyful presence about them it made the day even more enjoyable. Before sharing thier sneak peek with you, here is a little more about this lovely couple:

WHERE DID YOU GUYS FIRST MEET?

I had seen Kiel around before but we had never met. One night in 2007, I was studying for finals at the University library when I took a break and saw his photo on MySpace. I took a chance and sent him a message. One thing led to another and we agreed to meet up and listen to a band play at Gella's for our first date.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE?

One evening last October we went out to eat supper at Gella's, which is where we had had our first date. Afterwards Kiel wanted to go for a walk in the park. During our walk he got down on one knee and proposed.

I really didn't know it was going to happen that evening, but he acted kind of nervous during supper and then I was a little suspicious when he wanted to go to the park :)

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO TOGETHER AS A COUPLE?

We enjoy doing a lot of things together. We both share a love of Star Trek and science fiction. We have gone to two Comic-Cons together and met/gotten autographs from/photos with many of our favorite actors and childhood heroes. We also have enjoyed going to many great concerts and traveling.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE BRIDES/GROOMS WHO ARE PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Try to plan ahead and get as much stuff done ahead of time as possible. There is always lots of last minute stuff to do and things you will forget about, so it is a lot easier to have as much done ahead of time as possible. The more you try to do at the last minute, the more stressed you will be. Just remember to slow down and enjoy yourself!

Johnny & Erin's Wedding sneak peek - Lawrence, KS Wedding Photography

Another wonderful wedding to be had this past weekend with Johnny & Erin Rupp. Erin and her girls started out by getting their hair and makeup done, then proceeded to the First United Methodist Church to get dressed in their newly remodeled Brides room. The remodel was very nice making a beautiful place for the bride to get ready. They had a lovely ceremony preceeded by a sweet first look where Johnny got to see his beautiful bride for the first time. After the ceremony we went to Ft. Hays for a few outdoor photos, but it was pretty hot that day! Their reception was heald out at the Schenk building where they even rented our photo booth for a little fun for all their guests. Ethan & Jennifer's beautiful outdoor "country" wedding - Lawrence, KS Wedding Photography

We couldn't have hardly asked for better weather last weekend for Ethan and Jennifer's outdoor wedding. Yes it was a little on the warm side, but hardly any wind and overall just a beautiful day. The morning started with the girls getting ready over at the Fairfield Inn, they all had the cutest robes to all wear while they got their hair and makeup done (see photo below) after they were ready I got a couple nice bridal photos of Jennifer before heading over to Frontier park to catch the guys just putting on their finishing touches so we could get a couple shots of them before the ceremony started. They had all kinds of little details (I'm sure Jennifer spent hours on pintrest and got some wonderful ideas) Making the whole ceremony setup under the trees just lovely! When it was time to start Jennifer rode up in a horse and carriage before walking down the aisle to see Ethan for the first time. They had someone playing guitar and singing as she proceeded down the aisle and it was really nice! After the ceremony the entire bridal party departed in the carriage and we were able to get some photos at the park before heading over to the reception. Once again Jennifer had every detail planned just beautifully from the cake to the cupcake's in glasses (which I was told she made herself) and even a candy bar. It was overall a wonderful wedding that I was so blessed to be a part of. Thanks again Ethan and Jennifer for choosing me to be your photographer. Here is a little sneak peek from their day:

Tyler and Stephanie's Wedding Sneak Peek - Lawrence, KS Wedding Photography

What a lovely day we had this past Saturday for a wedding. Tyler and Stephanie were wed in Wakeeney at the First United Methodist Church. This is the first time I have photographed a wedding in this church and just loved the large stained glass window in the front with the cross (as seen below in the dress photo). Stephanie and the girls started early getting their hair and makeup done at the church and were so fun to hang with. After getting dressed Stephanie and Tyler had their 1st look before walking down the aisle. They had a beautiful ceremony followed with a fun reception at the Community building at the Wakeeney Fair Grounds. Here is a little sneak peek of their special day:

Samantha & Jeremy's Wedding - Kansas City Wedding Photography

Just like many brides and grooms, Samantha and Jeremy weren't originally convinced that they needed to hire a professional photographer to photograph their wedding. They were on a budget (as most are) and decided they could save a lot by having a friend of theirs take some photos on their special day. However with the wedding being only a few weeks out they had some second thoughts about their decision and decided to give me a call. I am so glad they did! Not only was it a joy to work for them on their wedding day, but to capture some wonderful photos that they and their family can cherish for years to come. They may not have thought they could afford to hire someone, but after calling we were able to work something out within their budget. No, I wasn't there all day like at most weddings and wasn't able to capture moments of the bride getting ready and such, but I was able to get a couple key family photos for them along with some nice couple portraits and reception photos. They have since expressed to me how glad they were they decided to go with a professional. The day is now over and they can rest knowing they will always have their beautiful memories brought back to life when they look through their wedding album.

If you have been wavering wether or not to hire a professional photographer, I encourage you to give me a call. When the day is over and done your photos will be the one thing you still have to keep those special memories alive and you don't want to trust that task to just a friend with a camera!

What brides would have done differently - Kansas City Wedding Photography

As I am getting this new website up and going I thought I would start off blogging about something that many brides think about AFTER their wedding. That is, "What would I have done different"? Being a bride planning your own wedding (whether or not you have a wedding planner) can be a tough job. Most weddings probably start with an idea and a budget! The question is how to get all your ideas incorporated to make your wedding as beautiful as you have always imagined, and stay within that budget. Many brides have to try and prioritize things but have a hard time knowing what things can be cut back on and what things shouldn't. Of course as a photographer I'm going to tell you the old photographers mantra of "Don't skimp on your wedding photography, for when your wedding is over, that is the one thing you will have to look back on, keeping those lovely memories alive in your mind". Yes I think that's true, but here is a wonderful little list of things that when asked, brides said they wished they had done differently. (Notice that almost 1/4 of the brides wished they had spent more on their photo's). I hope this helps everyone who reads this make their wedding the best they could ever have imagined!
